Residents of a Darling Downs town in southern Queensland say they have been ordered to remove speakers they have been using to drive away flying foxes with music.

The people from Allora say they have been plagued by the screeching, odour and droppings from the bats for about three years.

The residents had asked the State Government to do something to move the flying foxes on.

They are a protected species, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says they will eventually move on of their own accord.

Some of the residents had been playing Louis Armstrong and other jazz artists to move the bats away from their houses.

An Allora man says the EPA has now ordered that the speakers be removed.

The EPA has yet to comment.

Well - if the bats roosted where a person could get good shots of them, I wouldn't mind being infested with bats til they moved on. LOL

It could have been worse, I suppose. They could have been forced to listen to Palin speeches...

I worked with a guy who had a Phd in bats (and the only job he got was as a shelver in the library!) and he told me so many fascintating things about bats that I am kind of fond of them now. Not that I want them roosting near me...
