no living happily ever after

Comments

I just got an email this morning. One of our friends has Stage 2 lung cancer. Smoking is like playing Russian Roulette.
thank you very much for your kind words.
best wishes for your MIL as well.
I was surprised when my doctor told me how many people were surprised to find out they have emphazema when they smoke. It's something I fully expect to have if I live long enough. Hope your MIL has a mild enough case that she can be expected to live a full long life.
I am so sorry about your MIL's diagnosis. I hope it is manageable. I quit 2 years ago, and it was the best thing I ever did.
[this is good]
Amen to quitting.

(Sorry about your MIL..hopefully, things will get better once she quits.)
I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL.

My husband's father passed away the year before I met my husband. His dad went into the hospital because his doctor thought he had pneumonia. After more tests the doctors determined he had a small-cell cancer, and two weeks later his dad was gone. Just that fast. Unfortunately, my two SILs still smoke, and my step daughter too. I wish they would all quit.
Most stupid thing I ever did was take up smoking when I was 16. Smartest thing I ever did was quit when I was 40. Mrs Snowy also gave it up around the same time. I like to mentally calculate how much money that saved us. Must be getting up towards $150,000 by now. And we're both in good health.

I recently met someone whom I've known since childhood. He can hardly breathe because of his emphysema, yet still smokes. Crazy.

A lot of nurses smoked in my young days, and doctors. It always disappoints me when I see young people smoking. I want to snatch it out of their hands, and scream, "Don't do it!". I suppose I can't blame them for being just as stupid as I was. In those days we were subjected to much cigarette advertising, although it was peer pressure that was my downfall.

So sorry to hear about your MIL, I really hope they can do something to help alleviate her symptoms.
And well said about the smoking. I smoked from age 14 and gave up a year ago. If I can do it, anyone can and I'd urge anyone to give it their best shot. It's not fun but it is possible and you feel (and smell!) so much better if you quit!!
with a few exceptions, the stuff they put into premade smokes will kill ya! i'm an off-and-on natural smoker (as in not addicted), i buy 100% rolling tobacco. if the premades were all that was available, i wouldn't smoke at all, that stuff's disgusting, loaded with chemicals. i'm sorry to hear about your mil.
I know, but in some cases, easier said than done.
I stopped smoking the day I knew I was pregnant with Sarita (1995) and stayed like that for almost 3 years, when my ex was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and decided to take up alcohol.
It has been a very spiky way since.
But a couple of years ago I went from 35-40 a day to 10 a day.
I'm not trying to go to 5.

Another thing that traumatized one of my best friends and I:her father plus 3 of our life time friends quit smoking, and they died within the year.
I know, say whatever, but it is traumatizing.

I don't smoke inside the house, I stopped 2 years ago after I saw an advert showing how many cigarrettes a child *smokes* when parents smoke in the house.....
I m trying.
my best....
Oh no.... so sorry. That would be very difficult to deal with. To know all along you could have changed that.
