no living happily ever after
MIL diagnosed with Emphysema. The result of 60 odd years of smoking.
She said she feels so embarassed as it is self-inflicted. She was a nurse, she knew better for a very long time.
If you smoke, please stop today, NOW. There is no happy ending to that story.

best wishes for your MIL as well.
(Sorry about your MIL..hopefully, things will get better once she quits.)
I recently met someone whom I've known since childhood. He can hardly breathe because of his emphysema, yet still smokes. Crazy.
A lot of nurses smoked in my young days, and doctors. It always disappoints me when I see young people smoking. I want to snatch it out of their hands, and scream, "Don't do it!". I suppose I can't blame them for being just as stupid as I was. In those days we were subjected to much cigarette advertising, although it was peer pressure that was my downfall.
And well said about the smoking. I smoked from age 14 and gave up a year ago. If I can do it, anyone can and I'd urge anyone to give it their best shot. It's not fun but it is possible and you feel (and smell!) so much better if you quit!!
