Shame, John Howard, Shame

[this is good]

You've created a beautiful tribute yourself here.

Thank you. It was incredibly sad and beautiful at the same time...
I'd not heard about that, what an awful thing to happen. Here in Britain we have the same issue with asylum seekers and immigrants, fuelled by media sensationalism and nonsense. To think that things were so bad for those people that they attempted this crossing, it's so sad. Sixweasels is right, you've made a lovely memorial and tribute to them.
our previous government tried every way to avoid taking refugees even to the point of paying other countries to take them into detention. It made me ashamed to be Australian. I am happy to say that the new government has a different attitude. We can't pretend that it is not one world anymore.
This is such a proud and strong statement. It's sad and spectacular, and an important reminder that we're human, we are all the people, and not just the sometimes wearisome sum of our respective governments.
Wow. I hadn't heard about this either. So haunting but such a beautiful tribute. Thanks for sharing this with us.
It kind of breaks my heart to see so many poles, you can visualize them as people, what a great monument.
Oh yes - shame indeed John!
especially as some poles are shorter than others and hence representing children. heart rendering
our previous government would have gone to almost any length to keep out anyone who was not like them - white. They acted as though people risked their lives in leaky boats just for the fun of it.
I don't think many people choose to leave their homes, and especially to undertake such dangerous journeys, without dire need. We often hear of immigrants sufficating in trucks on the way to England - so sad.
absolutely! What a great concept this artist had. It must hit you when you are physically there.
