When are we going to stop being considered everyone's dumping ground?

Hmmm, something just doesn't sound right here. I just can't believe that anyone would ask another country to just murder 200 of their people. However, I can believe the mindset of the Holt government and the "All the way with LBJ" bullshit that resulted in the unnecessary deaths of over 500 young Australians in Vietnam, which achieved nothing at all. And that I will never forgive. Ever.
I expect that it was just one ideas of many floated, but just the fact that someone, anyone, thought they could do anything remotely like that to anyone, anywhere, really gets me going. Reeks of someone not understanding what they were dealing with....I wouldn't have been surprised if we had suggested using Aboriginals as they were not yet considered "citizens".
I can remember the dust cloud that passed over Western Queensland after the Maralinga bomb tests. There was a small item in the Courier-Mail that reported it, and that scientists had said that there was no danger. I often wonder how many cancers could be attributed to that "safe" radioactive dust cloud.
probably about the same number that James Hardie denied for years and years

Crikey--that's scary...awful...there's so much evil stuff that we'll never find out that happens, happened, or almost happened with our government---just wait till the elections too.

ps--is Holt the one that went out for a swim and uh...never came back?

Holt - that's right. We are very casual with our leaders. We like to pretend that he swam out to a Russian sub and went to live in Russia rather than say we lost him somewhere!

I can only apologise if we tested any of our shit on your men. If it's any consolation at all we tested Sarin and other deadly gases on our own so it wasn't just you we picked on. We also give into anything that the US administration asks of us because our administration has, and this is a technical term, "No balls whatsoever". It's why our soldiers are being killed in Afghanistan and Iraq on a daily basis.
I'll back up Vlcola's statement. Back in the 60s the military did awful things to anybody and everybody. The 50s were even worse. Here in Nevada people actually took their children into the desert for picnics to watch the pretty atom bombs go off. And wasn't LSD first tested on the military?

I completely understand your feeling of being dumped on. Vegas has been the fastest growing American city in all of its history, yet we're still fighting about turning Yucca Mt. into a nuclear waste dump. That's just a short distance from the city. We're worried about the transport of the waste and the cities it will pass through. How in the world do they think they're going to get it "down under" without multiple opportunities for disaster in transit? I also don't understand asking another country to act as a trash can for our waste. That's outrageous.
No one wants it in their back yard - not a vote winner!
